Paternoster

In 1925 Anselmo Paternoster, a pioneer of local viticulture and a great admirer of Aglianico, founded the Paternoster winery. His great love and deep respect for a generous and still uncontaminated territory allowed him to produce wines that reflected all its characteristics.

The Paternoster family, first with Anselmo and then with his successors, has worked with tremendous energy and determination to make Aglianico del Vulture known and appreciated not only in Italy but worldwide. In particular, Anselmo's son Pino significantly changed the wine-making process with the acquisition, at Villa Rotondo in the territory of Barile, of vast vineyards, particularly suited to the cultivation of Aglianico grapes. He was also the driving force behind the granting of DOC status to Aglianico in the 1970s. The winery's vineyards rest on volcanic soils and the local climate, which is breezy and has a good temperature range, guarantees the best conditions for growing grapes.

Today, the latest generation of the Paternoster family has not only made sure that the teachings and objectives of their grandparents are preserved, but has also made it their mission to protect this wonderful land for its people, traditions and history. This is why the winery is committed to obtaining the necessary organic certification for the management of its vineyards. For 90 years, the Paternoster winery has been a true beacon in the Vulture region, and an essential point of reference for those wishing to discover this wonderful territory.
